Alex was very patient with my goddaughter and spent time helping her to understand the focus on the SLR we borrowed for her. It was great of Alex to allow us to do both 120 and 35mm processing as I had brought my 120 camera with me and wanted to learn with that. Even though we were running a little behind time Alex was accommodating and didn't rush which meant that we could see the process through and gain a great understanding. I'll post some of the results from the workshop when I get my new negative scanner. 😉 I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alex's workshops to anybody interested in learning more about film. His experience and professionalism will guide you and answer any of your questions.

He offer an... read more Introductory View Camera Workshop. Even though he was based in Perth, I was happy to have travelled all the way from Sydney to attend. It was a workshop that I wanted to attend for over 4 years and I am glad I was able to finally make it. The workshop was amazing and I have learnt so much from Alex. He was very informative and knowledgeable and was able to explained how to set up and use the view camera clearly. Alex even went above and beyond when I advised him that I had a darkroom at home, he went on to give me information on split grade printing which is normally further advanced than what he would usually covered. Overall I felt I came away with lots of new techniques and information that will add to my photography skills. Thank you Alex for a wonderful two days, I highly recommend attending any of Alex’s workshops! Though I have been developing my own films now for a few months, I had the opportunity to spend half a day with Alex to receive the benefit of his... read more decades of professional practice developing black and white films. Alex catered for my needs within the workshop and I left with a better understanding of my chemistry, mixing and the film developing processes. Two weeks later, I attended Alex's weekend long Large Format Photography Workshop. During these two days, Alex took me through many aspects of view camera with theories followed by hands-on. As it's been said "the haha moment" for me was the darkroom processes. Being able to print my final images as I see fit using the dodge and burn techniques, choice of paper, chemicals, note taking for future references. Spending 2 weekends with Alex consolidated all I have knows about large format photography and film photography in general. One of the best photography teachers I have come across and an awesome down to earth human being. As a teacher Alex was able not only to impart knowledge but kindle my enthousiasm about black and white photography. I’m already looking forward with great anticipation to the next workshop and the benefit of Alex’s decades of knowledge. Thank you Alex.

Alex is very experienced and a... read more good communicator. He was welcoming and happy to share his photographic knowledge. We selected one of my own negatives and he took me through the process of traditional darkroom printing - split grade printing - with testing followed by several prints - each one building on the previous until we had a print that I was quite pleased with. I was able to take eight prints home with me, along with a new-found knowledge of the darkroom and darkroom processes. I took the Complete Film Darkroom Workshop with Alex last weekend. We started by having a photo walk around the Canning River Regional Park, before returning to Alex’s home and... read more studio to develop the film we took. While the developed film was drying we had a lovely lunch. In the afternoon we returned to the darkroom to make several prints from the shots we took earlier in the day. I had an absolutely brilliant time and love the prints I made. They are already hanging up around my house. Alex was so generous with his knowledge and I am now confident to develop film of my own at home. Unfortunately I don’t have a place for a darkroom in my house but can’t wait until I can access one to trying to make more prints of my own. Can’t recommend this enough. Alex is an excellent teacher with an obvious love of film photography and the day was well set out. I am a beginner photography and I learnt so much!

Since 1989, Alex Bond has published cards, calendars, books, and posters under his imprint Stormlight Publishing. His images showcase the West Australian environment. Bond's handcrafted, silver-gelatin, fibre-based prints are personally made by the author in his darkroom.
