The South West

The South West of Western Australia I loosely describe as an area starting around the Pinjarah region, inland and just south of Perth. From here I draw a line all the way south to Walpole at the edge of the Southern Ocean. The South West includes the lands west from Walpole to Cape Leeuwin, where it is then bordered by the Indian Ocean as we head northwards, stopping at the Mandurah region.

Tall, pale, slender and smooth karri forest trunks which go nearly two thirds of the full tree height before branching and then canopy. This forest in Boranaup near Margaret River is the most westerly, and the only location where karri forest is growing on limestone soils, rather than richer karri loam found further inland.
On the banks of the Margaret River, a giant sun-bleached karri tree trunk of a karri extends into the dark waters.
