Leather Kelp Cape Leeuwin, Augusta, Australia. This beautifully textured kelp is one of the more common seaweeds along the southern coastline of Australia.
While this seaweed can be commonly found along the south coast, the challenge is to find a composition within a tangled mass. Another problem is that the best seaweed forms and shapes usually occur right on the water line. Which means that the subject matter is moving with the surf!
One advantage of a 4×5 field camera is the bellows extension. Most field cameras will have a bellows which will extend out to approximately 300mm. With a standard focal length lens of 150mm, this bellows extension can theoretically provide sufficient lens extension for one to one image magnification.
