Gourmand Awards Paris Pemberton Wine Region Book

This year Paris will host the 2010 Gourmand Book Awards. I have just received notification that my book Pemberton Wine Region is the Australian finalist in Gourmand categories.

Attracting over 6000 entries worldwide, the Gourmand Book Awards is in its fifteenth year. An international judging panel must select the winners for each category. Pemberton Wine Region won Best Wine Photography Book in Australia and Best New World Wine Book in Australia in 2009.

Representing Australia for the Best in the World Gourmand Awards in these two categories will be my book Pemberton Wine Region.

I am amazed to have my book recognised by an international jury as equal to the best in the world. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for the Paris results in February 2010.

Pemberton Wine Book showcases working wineries and their environment. Unlike so many wine books Pemberton Wine Region is not about wine notes. Itfocuses is more so on a sense of place in which the wines are produced. The photographs capture the characteristics that make the place unique. It does not discuss or evaluate the wines.

The Belgium-French and Italy entries finally took home the Best in the World Gourmand Awards.

Italy won Best Wine Photography in the World with Lombardia, and the Belgium-French won Best Book on New World Wines in the World with Chile, País de Vinos y de Montañas.

It has been very gratifying to receive the book’s Australian nomination awards. I would like to congratulate all the publishers and authors involved in the Gourmand Book Awards.

Hi Alex, just noticed you started a blog so I thought I’d pop by and say hello 🙂

I’ve admired your work for many years, and I respect your choice of camera. Though I’m not sure I could have the dedication to do the same, it’s good to see people doing what they believe in.

Congratualtions on the getting as far as you did in the Gourmand Book Awards, it can’t be easy competing internationally like that.

Thanks very much Dave. The blog is pretty much still in its infancy and I’m still learning. I hope to add new images, let people know of upcoming events, snippets of information and share a few comments and musings.
